DSW Supports Establishment of Income Generating Activities in Youth Clubs
In Tanzania, DSW has set up an initiative on strengthening the income generating activities (IGAs) of youth clubs. Each club that has established own initiatives and efforts for this, received a cheque and DSW organized a handover ceremony. District Commissioners, local leaders, and representatives from all youth clubs attended the ceremony. In their speeches, both Districts Commissioners urged club members to scale up their IGAs by joining Saving, Credits and Cooperative Schemes (SACCOS) in order to access soft loans when the project ends and acknowledged DSW’s work in complimenting governments' efforts to reduce poverty among young people.
Sensitization Seminars for Community Leaders in Tanzania
As an entry point, DSW conducted sensitization seminars to
community leaders and other gate keepers on the project 'Addressing Sexual and
Reproductive Health of Female Youth Working in Informal Sector', funded by the
European Commission. In the seminars DSW staff learned that besides the
beneficiaries, most community leaders also have inadequate knowledge of sexual
and reproductive health (SRH) and employment policies. Similarly the events
revealed potential institutions for future collaboration, such as Minnesota
International Volunteers and Foundation of Africa Medicine and Education
especially in offering youth friendly SRH services.
