Training Centre in Kampala, Uganda
Catering for training needs
DSW's Training Centre in Uganda was designed to cater for the adolescent sexual and reproductive health training needs in East Africa. Established with support from BONITA Gefuehl fuer Mode GmbH&Co.KG in May 2001, the Training Centre aims at strengthening the capacity of both regional and national organisations in designing and implementing high-quality sustainable projects and programmes in adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
The only one of its kind in the region, the Training Centre plays a key role within the Y2Y programme as it provides training of trainers on both facilitation skills and sexual and reproductive health. The courses also serve to strengthen the managerial capacities of youth clubs.
A training venue for other organisations
In recognition of its long-year expertise, the Training Centre has repeatedly been contracted by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, the Ugandan Ministry of Health and the Population Secretariat to carry out training courses for their service providers. Moreover, the Training Centre has increasingly become a hub for other organisations to conduct workshops, seminars, meetings and conferences. Organisations hiring these services include Action Aid, German Development Service (DED), German Technical Co-operation Agency (GTZ), Makere University, Save the Children UK-Rwanda, Save the Children Denmark and Youth Incentives.
To date, the Training Centre has provided trainings for more than 4,000 young people from various countries, even beyond East Africa. These include Ethiopia, Eritrea, Germany, Kenya, Netherlands, Rwanda, Somaliland, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
